The gym is the perfect place for developing crushes on people – you see them every day from a distance, you can imagine what their personality is like, and you might see them look better and better each week.

Now: how can you tell your gym crush likes you, too?

Here are 10 signs and what you can do about them:

1) They smile at you while working out

People who are in love smile a lot, so if your crush is smiling at you while lifting, it could be a good sign.

You see, most people do their own thing when they work out, and they don’t really spend much time looking at other people.

This means, that if your crush is smiling at you, they most definitely find you interesting and have taken notice of you.

If your crush is smiling at you while you’re both in the weight room, you might want to consider whether or not they’re single.

Some couples use the gym together, so if you see them with someone else, you’ll know.

But, you know, you can always just ask them, too!

All in all, smiling is a pretty good sign that they like you, one way or another.

2) They always offer to spot you

If your crush always offers to spot you, it’s a good sign that they’re interested in getting to know you better.

They could just be a nice person, though, so try to look for other signs that they’re interested in you, too.

You might just be an easy person to help out because you’re new to the gym, though.

However, most people will not offer to spot others unless they are interested in them in some way or another.

If they offer to spot you while working out on equipment that doesn’t require assistance, like a treadmill, elliptical, or stationary bike, you can read more into it.

Many people use equipment that doesn’t require assistance regularly, so if they offer to spot you while using it, you might want to consider why they’re doing so.

Trust me, offering to spot you on your bench press, squats, or shoulder press, for instance, is a really good sign that they are into you and want to get to know you better.

Who knows, maybe they are just trying to talk to you and don’t know how else to break the ice!

3) They make eye contact with you during cardio

If your crush makes eye contact with you while you’re both doing cardio, it could be a good sign.

Again, though, they could be friendly and make eye contact while exercising without meaning anything by it, so don’t jump to conclusions.

If they make eye contact while doing low-impact cardio that puts them near you, like on a treadmill or elliptical, they’re probably interested in you.

Trust me, as a passionate gym-goer, I can tell you one thing: people tend to generally avoid eye contact during cardio at all costs.

Think about it: you are sweaty, out of breath, and probably red as a tomato – that’s the last place you want to be making eye contact with others.

Unless, of course, you have a crush on someone and can’t get your eyes off them.

In that case, you’re probably just being friendly and trying to make eye contact with everyone, but if they’re really interested in you and want to get to know you better, they will make eye contact with you during cardio.

4) They get up from their exercise to walk near you during a workout

If your crush gets up from their exercise to walk near you during a workout, it could mean that they’re interested in you.

Keep in mind, though, that many people like to walk around when they’re home and at a gym, so don’t jump to conclusions.

If they get up from their exercise to walk near you while doing cardio, they’re probably interested in you.

If they’re doing weight training exercises that put them near you, they could be trying to get close to you, too.

You see, if you are moving around the gym and you notice that for some reason, they just seem to need the exact same machines as you and always are in the same room, that’s a good sign.

The thing is, usually, routines don’t match up like that, so if someone happens to be in the same room as you all the time, that’s a pretty solid sign that they’re interested in you.

5) Their body language is open, relaxed, and confident around you, even if they’re sweating like crazy!

If your crush is standing or sitting with their arms and legs open, they’re comfortable in their skin and around you.

They aren’t folding themselves into a ball to hide.

If they’re relaxed and confident next to you, even if they’re sweating like crazy, they’re probably into you.

If they’re doing exercises that require them to be near you, they’re probably confident around you.

Keep in mind that some people are naturally more open than others, so this sign could also be attributed to their personality type, not their feelings for you.

If you see other signs on this list, though, it could indicate a crush.

The thing is, when someone isn’t afraid to flirt with you, even though they are sweaty and exhausted, they probably like you quite a bit!

6) They invite you to train together outside of the gym (e.g., running, lifting)

If your crush asks you to train at the gym with them or invites you to train outside of the gym, they could be interested in you.

Keep in mind, though, that many people like to train with friends, so don’t draw too much from this unless you are certain that they are single.

If they invite you to train with them at the gym, they could just be friendly.

If they invite you to train outside of the gym, they could be interested in you.

If they invite you to train outside of the gym, try to extend the invitation back to them.

If they accept it, they’re probably interested in you.

Simply put, when they invite you to train outside of the gym, take it as a good sign that they’re interested in you.

This is the perfect gateway to date – you ask your gym crush to train outside of the gym and get a protein shake after – how much better can it get?

If your gym crush asks you out like that, you don’t have to wonder anymore, they definitely like you!

7) Your gym crush acts really nervous around you

If your crush is really nervous around you, they could be really interested in you.

Keep in mind, though, that everyone feels more nervous around someone they like, even if they’re not crushing on them.

If they’re really nervous around you while doing exercises that put them near you, they could be interested in you.

Trust me, someone who gets all fidgety and jumpy when you are around is definitely into you.

Either that, or they find you extremely intimidating, but if they are your gym crush, too, it’s probably the former.

The thing is, lots of people aren’t sure how to show their feelings or how to ask someone out, so they get really nervous around you.

If your gym crush is nervous around you, it could be because they like you.

Try to make them less nervous by making them laugh or telling a story.

This will break the ice and help them relax.

8) They start conversations with you by asking how you’re doing

If your crush starts a conversation with you by asking how you’re doing, they could be interested in how you’re feeling and are looking for a way to start a conversation with you.

This is a great opening line to start a conversation because it’s not about them, it’s super simple and neutral.

It’s about you, which makes you feel important!

If they’re asking you how you’re doing, they’re probably interested in you, so take advantage of the opportunity!

Sure, some gym buddies might ask you how you are doing, too, but if your gym crush shows more than one sign from this list and starts conversations with you a lot, that’s a good sign.

You see, most people don’t really start many conversations at the gym, so use that opportunity!

9) You see them at the gym a lot because they started going the same time as you

If your crush started going to the gym at the same time as you, they could be interested in you.

Keep in mind, though, that many people like to work out with a specific time and don’t want to deal with crowds.

If they started going to the gym at the same time as you, they could be interested in you.

If they started going before you, they could have just wanted to get in their exercise before the gym got crowded.

However, if you see them at the gym a lot and they’ve changed their workout schedule and are now working out whenever you are, that’s a good sign.

You’ll have to look for other signs to be sure.

But seriously – unless their life schedule changed in some major way – why would they now go to the gym at the same time as you unless they are into you?

10) They talk to you while working out

If your crush is talking to you while working out, it could be a good sign.

Keep in mind, though, that some people are social by nature and tend to talk to everyone.

Some people are introverted and don’t want to talk to anyone at the gym, so try to look for other signs that your crush might actually like you.

If they’re talking to you while doing exercises that put them close to you, like doing chest press or lunges, they’re probably interested in you.

They could just be being friendly, especially if they’re not focusing on you while speaking, but in general, if people talk to you at the gym, they are interested.

Whether their interest is romantic or simply as a new gym buddy, it’s a good sign that they are interested in you.

In that case, try to have a conversation with them and see where things go!

Before you know it, you’ll know all the details about them and also whether or not they are currently single!

What now?

Gym crushes are not always very easy to spot and you might have to wait a few months before you know if your crush likes you.

In the meantime, you can always try to be friendly to them, smile and make eye contact, and talk to them when opportunities arise.

Trust me, most people love it when other people talk to them, even at the gym, so striking up a conversation will not be too bad!

Worst case, they just want to get back to their workout and you can easily get out of the situation without it being too awkward.

Good luck!
