New relationships are exciting.

They bring a rush of adrenaline, butterflies in your stomach, and happy sighs as you think about spending time with the other person.

But new relationships also come with complications.

How do you handle a man in a relationship? I’m here to tell you!

1) Be clear about what you want

The first step to dealing with a man in a relationship is to be clear and honest with yourself.

If you don’t know what you want out of a relationship, you can’t expect anyone else to know either.

If you’re not sure if you want a monogamous relationship, then say so.

You see, if you’re looking for casual dating, that’s okay too.

What matters is that you are clear and upfront with the person you’re dating.

Dating someone who isn’t completely sure of what they want isn’t fair to you or the person you’re dating.

If you don’t know what you want, it’s okay to take some time to figure that out.

You see, men are often the ones that are kind of on the fence about what they want.

Now, if you know exactly what you want, then nobody can tell you otherwise.

You can then go ahead and eliminate anyone who doesn’t meet those standards!

However, if you aren’t sure of what you want, you are open for men to taking advantage of that.

If you don’t know what you want, then simply take your time and figure it out.

2) Set boundaries — and respect them

In terms of dealing with a man in a relationship, setting boundaries is key.

You don’t have to tell the person you’re dating everything about your life or vice versa.

You definitely don’t have to give them your social media passwords or anything like that.

It’s okay to keep some parts of your life private. It’s okay to not want to share your social media account with someone else.

It’s fine to not want to meet the other person’s family right off the bat.

It’s okay to say no — especially when you’re not ready to do something.

If the person you’re dating respects your boundaries and respects you, they will respect your wishes. If they don’t, they’re not worth your time.

You see, when you have clear boundaries, it’s very easy to know when a man is a good partner and when he isn’t.

Does he respect your boundaries? When you say you don’t tolerate someone who follows half-naked women on Instagram, does he respect that?

These boundaries are your right and by implementing them, you can see if the relationship is actually worth keeping.

But that also means you have to respect his boundaries in return.

By respecting each other’s boundaries, you can both have the freedom to be yourself without worrying about someone trying to take advantage of or manipulate you.

What would a relationship coach say?

While this article will shed light on the main tips to deal with a man in a relationship, it can be helpful to speak to a relationship coach about your situation.

With a professional relationship coach, you can get advice tailored to your unique situation…

Relationship Hero is a popular site where highly trained relationship coaches help people work through complex relationship issues.

Their popularity boils down to how skilled their coaches are.

Why am I so confident that they can help you?

Well, after recently experiencing a tough patch in my own relationship, I reached out to them for help.

From the moment I got in touch, I was given genuine, helpful advice, and was finally able to see my relationship issues with real clarity.

3) Stay in touch with your friends

Your friends know you the best — and they’ll be the first people to notice if you’re putting too much pressure on yourself or getting wrapped up in a relationship too quickly.

They’ll also be able to let you know if the person you’re dating is a red flag that you need to get away from as soon as possible.

Be careful not to isolate yourself, and don’t drop everything in your life just because you’re dating someone.

Dating someone doesn’t mean you can’t hang out with your friends anymore.

Your friends can also help you stay grounded as you get more and more wrapped up in a relationship.

They can remind you of who you are when you’re dating someone. They can remind you not to lose yourself in another person.

This can be incredibly important, especially if you have a tendency to become codependent in a relationship, or if you often lose your sense of self in a relationship.

4) Don’t rush into things

The more time you spend with someone, the more likely you are to fall in love with them.

So, if you’ve only been dating someone for a month or two and are already wondering if they’re the one, you’re probably rushing things along.

It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that since you really like this person, you have to get into a relationship with them right away.

That’s not true, though.

And even if you’re dating someone you really like and want to be in a relationship with, you might want to consider taking it a little slower to make sure you’re making the right decision.

You see, in a relationship with a man, there is nothing wrong with taking your time.

Whether that means taking your time to sleep with him or taking your time to decide whether he is someone you would marry one day, don’t rush into things!

5) Talk to the person you’re dating about exclusivity

If you’re dating someone who has other people in their life, talk to them about being exclusive.

If they’re dating other people, they’re probably not going to want to be exclusive with you until they’ve broken things off with their other partners.

You see, if you’re dating someone who doesn’t have anyone else in his or her life or who is just casually dating, still talk to them about being exclusive.

An exclusive relationship means that you’re both committed to one another, but you’re not necessarily “tied down” with a long-term relationship.

Being exclusive means that you’re each other’s only partner. You’re being honest with each other about who you’re dating and dating only each other.

I know, you might say “we’ve been girlfriend and boyfriend for over a month now, of course, we are exclusive!”

Are you really, though?

I am not trying to make anyone paranoid, but sometimes, without actually talking about it, it is not a given for some men to be exclusive with you.

6) Trust your gut and pay attention to red flags

If something doesn’t feel right in a relationship, trust your gut.

If you feel like you’re being treated poorly or like you’re not being respected, don’t ignore those instincts.

If something feels off, it is off.

You see, when someone is acting shady and you have a weird feeling about them, that’s a red flag.

If they’re not respecting your boundaries or your requests, they’re not right for you.

Trust your gut, and if there’s something off about the way a relationship is going, don’t ignore it.

Get out of the relationship as quickly as possible.

7) Confront the situation instead of ignoring it

If you’re dating someone who is doing something you don’t like, don’t ignore the situation.

You’re dating someone who is doing things that make you uncomfortable, and that’s not a great way to start a relationship.

Confront the person you’re dating about the situation.

Tell them that you don’t appreciate being in that position.

You deserve someone who is honest and who respects you. If the person you’re dating doesn’t change their ways, they’re not worth your time.

You see, sometimes we don’t want to start drama or we feel like it might go away on its own, but situations need to be confronted.

The thing is, if this man is right for you, then he will love the fact that you are speaking up for yourself and letting him know how you feel.

8) Be honest about your needs and wants

Be honest with the person you’re dating about your feelings and needs.

If you’re not comfortable with the situation, let them know.

You don’t have to be mean about it or make them feel bad for what they’re doing.

You can, however, be honest and say that you’re not comfortable with the situation.

If you’re dating someone who is not exclusive with you, you don’t have to lie and say that you’re okay with that either.

Let them know that you want to be treated like you’re exclusive and taken seriously in the relationship.

This all boils down to one thing: be honest about what you expect from the relationship.

If you want a monogamous relationship, then say so.

If you’re not interested in anything serious, then say that too!

You see, men are often confused by women who aren’t clear about what they want.

The best way to eliminate confusion is to be clear and honest with yourself as well as the other person.

Do you want him to get you flowers every once in a while? Let him know!

Do you need a goodnight text before you go to sleep? Ask for it!

You see, everyone is different and everybody has different love languages.

You need to ask for what you want from time to time.

9) Stay busy and have hobbies you enjoy on your own

One of the best ways to deal with a man in a relationship is to stay busy.

Don’t sit around waiting for your partner to call you or for them to ask you to hang out.

Make plans with your friends. Go out and do the things that you enjoy.

Have hobbies that you do on your own.

Go to the movies or a show on your own. Join a book club or a trivia night event that you go to without a date.

Doing the things you love without having to wait for a partner to be there with you gives you a confidence boost and will help you keep your independence.

When you’re dating someone, don’t rely on him to keep you busy or to keep you entertained. Stay busy, so you don’t become codependent on him.

This will also allow you to leave should things ever become unhealthy.

10) Don’t let the relationship consume you

As I mentioned above, it’s important to keep have your own life even when you are in a relationship.

You don’t want to be the girl who talks about her man nonstop and never has anything to say about herself or what she’s doing in her own life.

That will make people think you’re not fully independent.

If you have a tendency to lose yourself in relationships, this is an area you need to pay particular attention to.

It can be easy to get wrapped up in a relationship, especially if it feels like things are going well and they’re moving fast.

But as I mentioned earlier, if something feels too good to be true, it probably is. If the relationship is moving at warp speed, there may be something wrong with it.

Pay attention to these warning signs and don’t let yourself get completely consumed by the relationship — no matter how great it may seem!

Although your relationship might be good, having it completely consume you is never a good thing.

Women tend to be more focused on their relationships than men, but that doesn’t mean it has to be the only thing on your mind 24/7.

If it is, try to find out why you feel that way.

Do what feels good

When it comes to a relationship with a man, do what feels good.

If something makes you feel bad, speak out about it!

Whatever you do, don’t lose your sense of self completely and remember that you are still your own person.

Can a relationship coach help you too?
